Hi, I’m Carla!
Carla has been practicing speech pathology in Central Florida since 1996 and is the Co-owner of Sunny SPOT Therapy. She completed her Master of Arts degree at the University of Central Florida (UCF) and has been providing exceptional speech-language and feeding therapy to children ever since. Go Knights! She is a certified member of the American Speech-Lanaguage-Hearing Association (ASHA).
Carla has passionately served her community in the public schools, out-patient rehabilitation, university and hospital settings throughout Central Florida for more than 25 years. Her years of experience have led her to be recognized by Apraxia Kids for her advanced training and clinical expertise in Childhood Apraxia of Speech.
Although Carla does love a challenging speech sound disorder, she is also known for her no-nonsense approach to helping young children and families achieve strong communication skills in order to reach developmental milestones. Carla has spent a number of years working with Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children and Orange County Public Schools where she honed her skills working with a wide range of medical and learning issues. She spent time participating in a local Cleft Palate Team and facilitating group therapy programs as well. All in all, she appreciates the hard work and dedication that it takes for families to help their child with special needs and considers therapy a team effort.
Carla also enjoys sharing her wealth of knowledge by presenting at national and state-wide conferences. As well, she has a passion for educating future speech pathologists by teaching graduate students at UCF about CAS and supporting students with hands-on learning experiences in speech-language pathology.
On a personal note, Carla is wife to John and mother to Kayla and Ella. She has been a Girl Scout troop leader since 2013 where she works hard to help build girls of Courage, Confidence and Character. She tries to incorporate this theme throughout her therapy as well! Her many years of experience have made her easy to talk to and experienced in the following communication disorders:
